Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Changing Rooms

The Challenge
Service Design Partnership (SDP) was commissioned to redevelop an existing pharmaceutical changing area at GlaxoSmithKline’s (GSK) Barnard Castle site to conform to new Food and Drug Administration (FDA) standards.

For GSK a major challenge was limited space in which to add extra layers of sterile changing.

Service Design Partnership Solution
SDP re-designed existing changing rooms to accommodate an additional stage of hygienic changing.

We designed the Mechanical & Electrical systems to ensure there is no cross contamination embedding peace of mind and medical hygiene. We also guaranteed existing standards to the current production area while the new system was being developed.

Outcome
Existing changing rooms now conform to the FDA regulations. Research staff can discreetly, and safely change from their factory black clothing into Grade C production standard attire with just one additional change. Disruption to existing research and production was minimal as the new standards were implemented causing little loss of productivity.
