SERVICE Design Partnership is internationally recognised for being able to respond efficiently, quickly and creatively to the needs of global pharmaceuticals brands when they develop new sites.

The team was recently commissioned to help develop the Mechanical element of a new complex in Europe that will house Research and Development, pharmaceutical manufacture, clean rooms as well as admin support for more than 250 people.

The main contractor turned to SDP to deliver to RIBA Stage 4 mechanical designs for new builds that were on a tight timescale for development.

“This is a massive new facility built on a green field site with integrated ecologically efficient energy systems,” said SDP director, Chris Armistead.

“It will deliver major R&D and pharmaceutical manufacturing as well as offering economic growth in this region.  The main contractor needed extra support for one part of the mechanical design and knew that we could interpreted their designs so far and take them to the next crucial level.

“The work that we delivered will help support bio-safety cabinets which is integrated into the Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) system.

“It was an interesting project because it was not uniquely ours, but it gave us an opportunity to collaborate with a team, take their first stage designs, enhance and develop them so that the overall project can proceed in a timely way.

“Pharmaceutical design is a core discipline for us, so we were comfortable with the work and enjoyed being able to make a contribution,” he added.
