Service Design Partnership’s 40+ years of expertise is helping to overcome construction issues at a mental health hospital in Teesside.

Roseberry Park mental health hospital was built as a Private Finance Initiative (PFI) and opened its doors to patients seven years ago. It is made up of 15 blocks providing care for vulnerable adults and elderly mentally ill patients plus a high security unit across 365 beds.

Concerns were raised about construction defects a couple of years ago and a task force of experts was pulled together to review the issues on behalf of the Trust.

Long term consultants to the National Health Service, SDP has experience in designing and managing mechanical and electrical (M&E) fits both for healthcare facilities and high security public buildings.  SDP will be working on behalf of the Tees, Esk and Wear Valley NHS Foundation Trust as part of the Technical Team investigating issues and offering solutions for the future.

AS part of the improvement work SDP will be consulting on fire safety systems, roofing and plumbing.

In addition to the initial review of the site the plan is to build a 16th block which will enable patients to be moved out of their existing accommodation with minimal disruption to services while improvement work is carried out and SDP has been awarded the design commission for the M&E services.
